A free online introductory workshop, hosted by ADD-vance Hertfordshire, for Hertfordshire parents/carers of children up to 18 years with a diagnosis (or suspected diagnosis) of ADHD and/or Autism

Learning outcomes:

  • To remind ourselves of the characteristics of Autism
  • To explore how Autism may presently differently in girls and young women
  • To identify strategies to support autistic girls
  • To know where to get more help.

BSL Signed Story and Rhyme Time for under 5sBSL Signed Story and Rhyme Time for under 5s

Lucy Payne and Tracey Baillie, from the SEND SAS Deaf and Hearing Support Service (DHSS), have been working in partnership Hertfordshire Libraries to set up an exciting new and inclusive Story and Rhyme Time for all 0-5s, incorporating BSL and spoken language. A visual feast for the eyes! All are welcome, both deaf and hearing babies, toddlers, children and their families.  Held on the last Wednesday of each month - come and find out more about Sign Language!

Tips & Tools to Manage Everyday Change (Transitions)

SEND Family Centre Drop-Ins

Two monthly drop-ins for parent and carers of children and young people with special needs, who will be very welcome to attend these sessions at the Family Centres. 

You'll have the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have, find out information about local support groups, and meet other families.  Children are welcome to attend, no formal diagnosis needed.  We can provide a friendly ear and a safe space to talk.

Talking Teens

A free 6-week online course, hosted by Supporting Links, for parents and carers of children aged 12-19. 

The course will cover: 
• The Teen Brain: Recognising the physical and emotional changes taking place during the teenage years and why their behaviour changes.
• The link between behaviour and communicating difficult feelings.
• How to maintain your relationship with good communication.
• Understanding risk taking behaviour around drugs, alcohol and gang culture.
• How to negotiate during a conflict situation.

A free 6-week online course hosted by Supporting Links for parents and carers of children aged 0-12 which will help participants to:
• Manage challenging behaviour with consistency
• Encourage positive behaviour
• Build your child's self esteem
• Set and maintain boundaries
• Respond to tantrums and difficult feelings in children

Two free 6 week online courses hosted by Supporting Links for parents and carers of children aged 2-19 years with a recognised additional need. Diagnosis is not essential.

Course content:
• Understand your child’s behaviour.
• Find strategies that really work.
• Understand conflict : why it happens and how to handle it.
• Manage anger effectively.
• Motivate, encourage and support your child.
• Manage the different needs within your family.

Supporting Families with Protective Behaviours

Two free online courses hosted by Families in Focus which will aim to help parent have strategies and new ideas to help improve family life.  Course content:

  • Understanding the links between feelings, thoughts and behaviour
  • Understand what may be influencing behaviour
  • Respond to feelings eg. stress, anger and anxiety  
  • Improve communication to build relationships
  • Build on strengths
  • Learn strategies to help feel safe and have problem-solving skills for life
